Lucy Twinkle, The Little Star Best
Doctrine and Covenants 88
7 Which truth shineth. This is the light of Christ. As also he is in the sun, and the light of the sun, and the power thereof by which it was made.
8 As also he is in the moon, and is the light of the moon, and the power thereof by which it was made;
9 As also the light of the stars, and the power thereof by which they were made;
10 And the earth also, and the power thereof, even the earth upon which you stand.
Once upon a time billions and billions of years ago, in a place light years away, there sparkled a tiny, insubstantial star called Lucy Twinkle. Lucy lived up above the sky so high; twinkling and twinkling like a diamond in the sky. She twinkled and sparkled every minute of her existence because as a star fairy sparkling was the most natural thing for her to do.
Lucy Twinkle’s glistening was forever growing brighter and brighter. She glowed from the depths of her heart and her light radiated far, far beyond the realms of her own being. As her brilliance grew and grew, Lucy was filled with an abundance of loving warmth and joyful light. She realizes that sparkling made her feel wonderful inside and out. Sparkling was truly heavenly.
Lucy Twinkle’s glow became stronger and stronger. She felt the pulsating energy surrounding her; eons of stardust connecting her to all existence. Even though harvesting stardust was hard work, Lucy discovered the more that she worked to sparkle; the more energy she felt filling her soul with light. Gathering up the energy in stardust in order to shine, took a great deal of effort. She felt such great joy in the effort that she worked with all her might. She gathered without ever stopping because it was a part of being a twinkling star fairy and nothing felt better than sparkling.
This continuous renewal of light caused Lucy Twinkle to grow lighter and brighter. It seemed as if there was nothing in the whole expanse of eternity that compared to the warm glowing feeling she felt as she sparkled. The lighter and brighter Lucy grew, the happier she felt. She gleaned her happiness from sharing her light with the other star fairies. Great joy came from basking in warmth emanating from all the star fairies and stars surrounding her. She reached out with rays of starlight connecting with the warming starlight of the other star fairies. The heavens radiated with joy uniting all the star fairies with the stars. As they all united together the heavens shone gloriously, illuminated by the brilliant starlight of a gazillion sparkling, shimmering stars.
But then one night, Lucy Twinkle caught sight of a star that must have been light years away from her. In a flash, the star blazed across the heavens and fell right out of the sky; never to be seen again. Lucy Twinkle’s worries about what happened to the falling star and worries about what would happen to her overshadowed her happiness. The fear that she would lose her sparkle and fall from the sky eclipsed the joy she felt when she sparkled. The little star wondered if there was a way to save up her sparkle by not shinning so bright.
At first she put all her energy into saving her sparkle and keeping it all to herself. But that just wouldn’t work. Lucy Twinkle, the little star fairy simply had to sparkle; sparkling was what made her who she was. So she tried to hide her sparkle by not glowing so brightly. But the more lackluster her shine became, the more her happiness faded. As she grew dimmer and dimmer, the darkness of space grew deeper and deeper. The expanse of the universe seemed empty and cold.
Lucy Twinkle’s spark seemed to be going out. The joyful light and heavenly warmth slowly ebbed away and left her feeling emptiness inside and out. In her dark despair, she stopped trying to gather up the glowing warmth and energy of the stardust surrounding her. She gave up trying to connect with the other stars and star fairies because she worried that they would drain her of all her precious starlight.
As time passed, Lucy Twinkle’s sparkle became fainter and fainter. All her effervescence was being smothered by her sadness and was fading into the shadowy gloom of space. Her focus changed from sparkling and radiating light to worrying and fretting over falling from the sky. The little star fairy feared being lost forever in the cold and penetrating darkness. What happened to star fairies when they fell from the sky? Her worries spun around and around, centering on the black emptiness of space.
Lucy Twinkle’s hope faltered and her joy slowly flickered away. As her thoughts circled around and around, she began to think about her own path orbiting around and around the greater light. As far as Lucy knew there had always been greater lights existing in the heavens even though she had never realized that all her sparkle had originated in a greater light. The greatest light was at the center of all existence.
Lucy Twinkle, the little star fairy clung to her place in the sky trying to hold herself up the best she could so that she would not fall into the darkness. As she clung there, she felt a huge pull towards the greater light pushing against the immense forces of space. A glint of hope reignited within her, as she realized that it was this force that was bearing her up. She cast her fear of the darkness and falling out of the sky into the nothingness. She focused her gaze toward the example of the eternally glowing sun. The sun was forever reflecting hope; endlessly enlightening all creation with order that vanquished darkness and chaos.
As Lucy Twinkle focused on the sun, she felt the heavenly warmth of the sunlight radiating deep inside her soul. The loving light warmed her to the very center of her being. Reflecting in the light on the sun, she set about gathering all the glittering stardust until her own luminosity dazzled brilliantly. The extraordinary sheen of her sparkle reached lovingly across the heavens connecting with a whole galaxy of a gazillion of glistening stars and star fairies.
Lucy Twinkle, the little star fairy put all her effort into gathering up the light and warmth of the sun, whose brightness spread across the whole expanse of space. Once again joy filled her soul with light and she wanted to share her happiness with all the stars and star fairies surrounding her. The sun filled her with life and light. Lucy Twinkle’s heart glowed with joy as she reached out with rays of starlight reconnecting with the starlight of the other stars. The heavens blazed; illuminated by the brilliant starlight an infinity of sparkling, shimmering stars. Her glimmers of hope brightened as thoughts of the son rose within her; perhaps star fairies only appear to be falling from the sky. Her hope centered on the sun, perhaps star fairies shooting across the sky were blazing into an even greater realm of existence.
Doctrine and Covenants 88
11 And the light which shineth, which giveth you light, is through him who enlighteneth your eyes, which is the same light that quickeneth your understandings;
12 Which light proceedeth forth from the presence of God to fill the immensity of space—
13 The light which is in all things, which giveth life to all things, which is the law by which all things are governed, even the power of God who sitteth upon his throne, who is in the bosom of eternity, who is in the midst of all things.
